Early life and career
Anne Jacqueline Hathaway was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 12, 1982. Her mother, Kate McCauley Hathaway, was an actress, and her father, Gerald T. Hathaway, was a lawyer. Hathaway began her acting career as a child, appearing in commercials and television shows. She made her film debut in the 2001 Disney movie The Princess Diaries.
Hathaway's breakthrough role came in the 2006 comedy-drama The Devil Wears Prada. She played Andy Sachs, a young woman who gets a job as an assistant to the editor of a fashion magazine. Hathaway's performance earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Hathaway has since starred in a number of successful films, including Rachel Getting Married (2008), Love & Other Drugs (2010), Les Misérables (2012), and Interstellar (2014). She won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Les Misérables.
Personal life
Hathaway married actor Adam Shulman in 2012. They have two children together. Hathaway is known for her philanthropic work, supporting organizations such as the United Nations and the American Cancer Society.
