Domestic League Performance
Schalke had a disappointing season in the Bundesliga, finishing 18th in the table and being relegated to the 2. Bundesliga. They won only six of their 34 matches, drawing nine and losing 19. Their goal difference was -41, the worst in the league. Schalke's poor form was evident throughout the season, as they never really looked like a team that could avoid relegation. They were often outplayed by their opponents and made too many mistakes.
DFB-Pokal Performance
In addition to the domestic league, Schalke also participated in this season's edition of the domestic cup, the DFB-Pokal. This was the 22nd season for Schalke in the DFB-Pokal, and they reached the semi-finals before being eliminated by Borussia Dortmund.
